On Sunday, 11/10, our service was presented by our Bahá’í member. She told us her experience learning about the Bahá’í faith. Our presenter also educated us on the main tenets of Bahá’í. The tenets of Bahá’í are as follows:

  • Unity: The oneness of humanity, the oneness of religion, and the unity of God
  • Equality: The equality of men and women, and racial and social justice
  • Education: The importance of universal education
  • Truth: The pursuit of truth without superstition or tradition
  • Harmony: The harmony between religion and science
  • Justice: The centrality of justice in all human endeavors
  • Peace: The establishment of a universal and permanent peace as the supreme goal of humanity
  • Service: The exaltation of work performed in the spirit of service to the rank of worship
  • Evolution: The evolutionary nature of religion
  • Consultation: Peaceful consultation as a means for resolving differences

These have many similarities to the UU principles. Our lay leader shared concerns over Bahá’í teachings on intimate relationships, namely that Bahá’í teachings only validate marriage between a man and a woman. Learn more about the Bahá’í faith here.
