Today we had a presentation about Indigenous Peoples Day. A few people asked for additional information. There are two links below to further resources.
1) Know Your Rights! United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples for Indigenous Adolescents
This is a very good resource about the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It is written for teens so it uses very straightforward language and can easily be understood by adults as well. This is a very important document in the fight for Indigenous Rights, and this is a good way to learn more about this civil rights struggle.
2) Idle No More
Idle No More is an Indigenous Peoples movement in Canada that we discussed at great length today. First Nations peoples in Canada are fighting for their land and their sovereignty, which is being threatened by the oil industry. Click on the link above to learn more.
